The Role
I really enjoyed my placement because of the diverse roles I took on and opportunity to be involved in many projects within the bank. I took responsibility for many tasks and my manager was confident with the outcome.
I feel very valued by my managers (RM and SSM) who have been very supportive for the duration of the internship, particularly with external projects like the GCC work. Other employees have been harder to gain appreciation and respect as they have been there a while, nevertheless I feel I have earnt their appreciation in time.
I was given a lot of support by my managers in my role, especially for my projects and my ideas for them. For example, although my approach wasn't done before my manager was happy for me to take the lead and make the decisions.
I was always balanced in whether I was busy or not, as it was optional where i decided to work on a daytoday basis. For example, I could keep busy on the front or be more relaxed in back office. Nevertheless I always had something to do.
I was given a large amount of responsibility in my placement with customer queries, my project and daily operation of the bank. An example of my level of responsibility was my manager letting me take the lead on the entire staff training schedule.
I no doubt gained skills which I can apply to management theory in my essays and classes. I have also taken a module called risk and resilience for which I found there were many opportunities to apply my theory to my job role.
The Company
We always had a great vibe in the office as both the managers had massive energy and were keen to make this be mirrored by staff.
It was set up fantastically with a great time period, days out of the office, set plans but also lots of freedom.
The company have invested lots of time and money in me and the other Interns. I have esoecially enjoyed our days volunteering and networking.

Company Parties/Events
I can 100% see my career with HSBC and hope to be invited back for a 2nd year Internship to progress to a grad scheme.
The Culture
Great social scene amoungst interns which was spurred by HSBC's events. We have been organising meetings outside of work because of their influence.
Standard costs in the UK, petrol was the only severe cost of travelling to work.
There is not much nightlife in the seaside town, but we still went out a few times and made our own fun.
There are massive opportunities to get invovled with the GCC and other charity events. I also got involved with the intern blog sending regular video updates of my progress.
