The Role
I have really enjoyed my year as it has been great to experience a real life working environment. However, although given a full role, with real responsibilities, I feel like I could have been more challenged.
I felt welcome from the very start, everybody has been fantastic and super friendly, always willing to help. I felt valued, as I was doing an important role, that could not have been done without a placement student to fill the position.
Management were always on hand to help me with any day to day issues that arose. I had 3 personal placement reviews, which helped me to identify areas of weakness and seek advice on how to improve.
Each day for me was different - which was a good thing!! However, although some days I was very very busy, some days were fairly quiet.
I was given a vast amount of responsibility during my placement. I felt like I really made a difference to the workplace and contributed a great deal.
Although my placement was not directly related to my degree, some elements of my degree programme became evident in this real world multinational organisation. I have developed my time-keeping, organisational and communication skills and feel like I have developed invaluable self-awareness and confidence.
The Company
Atmosphere in the office was always a good one. Everybody was friendly and helpful, although sometimes quiet (more to do with the economic climate!)
The placement was very well organised, with an open day and full handover programme from my predecessor.
I received continuous training on various different areas, throughout my year at General Motors. The company also had an online University, where you were free to enrol yourself on any couse you liked, to continue to order new skills.

Working from home
Future employment prospects with this organisation are good. They have an established graduate scheme and would be a great company to work for, with good opportunity for career progression.
The Culture
Great social scene - company events and parties, nights out etc.
Cost of living and socialising in the area was very reasonable.
There are so many bars, restaurants and clubs in the vicinity - spoilt for choice!
There wer opportunities to get involved in charity work and sports events. there were also family fun days, comedy evenings etc.
