The Role
PLEASE NOTE: This review was for a placement at Watson Wyatt prior to Towers Perrin merging with Watson Wyatt to become Towers Watson. (The RateMyPlacement Team) It's a really friendly place to work, you settle in and feel part of the team almost instantly which is always a great start to enjoying your work.
Friendly is the first word I would use to describe the atmosphere in the office, everyone is really sociable so you get to know people quite well considering the short time that you are here.
There is always someone to answer your questions no matter how trivial.
There were some quiet and some busy periods like any office but I always had something to do.
There is a system in the office to make sure all the work gets checked, you are left to work independently but then your work is checked and if there is any feedback then everyone is willing to talk to you about it.
There are transferable skills which you learn when working in a large team in an office environment which stay with you. My degree is not directly linked to the work although bits do help.
The Company
Very sociable and really pleasant to work in.
The program is structured enough that you know what's going on but not very rigid which is nice, there are induction days to start off your time where you meet the other interns which is a great opportunity.
Everybody takes the time to help you with work which helps you develop while you are here. The project which you are given when you first arrive helps you to develop so many skills, it's a great idea.

Company Parties/Events
There are job opportunities depending on how well the internship goes and your performance in the office but you dont find out whether you have a job offer until a few weeks after the internship has ended.
The Culture
There were lots of events and trips to get involved in, not only with the other interns but also with colleagues in the office.
There are plenty of places to go as Manchester is a big city, it depends where you go though as to the price, it is a University city so there are student areas with student prices but also more expensive bars and clubs so it depends where you go.
Because of the size of the city and the University there is a really lively nightlife with plenty of bars and clubs.
There are events outside of work including pub quizzes, netball matches and trip to the greyhound races.
