The Role
Great atmosphere, all very friendly and supportive.
Formal project discussions once or twice a week, and I could always go up to someone in the office if there was a problem inbetween. Series of one-to-one sessions with my manager in the first week to introduce me to the technical background and wider context.
Brief periods of downtime between finishing one task and meeting to discuss the next steps.
I brought up several suggestions throughout the course of the project, and we decided as a team on how to proceed, based on my own research and design proposals.
Great talks and workshops on interesting technical topics outside the scope my own project, almost weekly.
The Company
Most of the time everyone was working on their own project, so it was mostly quiet.
Very well organised with almost 60 students at peak time. Talks and lectures were organised for departmental groups of students.
Loved this. One full-day workshop, many talks and other sessions to learn about the technical subject matter (even though most of this was unrelated to my project, which makes the investment even more remarkable).
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Will definitely apply for another placement with them in the future!
The Culture
There was a social commitee organising pub lunches, nights out, and even some weekend day trips. Most students met up over lunch.
Accommodation was quite expensive.
Didn't make much use of it so can't really comment.
