The Role
I did enjoy the challenge posed at the start of the job of working out the systems and setting up my project but as the project became established and my managers took less interest I ran out of things to challenge me
The staff are really friendly and do try and involve you in all their activities in branch and also things they've organised outside the branch.
I sis not have a great relationship with my line manger and I felt that at times they just expected me to invent things to do rather than monitor and help me shape my time there I kind of made my own experinces mostly
Some days I had a lot to do but other days I could easily waste it away doing very little
Not that much responsibility given but still felt that I had a value.
It does now seem it was a bit pointless doing the internship but it provided a great summer job and confirmed my ideas about a potential job in the company
The Company
Everyone individually tried to have fun in their work but as an office they atmosphere was at times stressed and dull
The internship was well organised as in the general plan of what could be done was great but actually having the support to fulfill this was not so great
HSBC did invest quite a bit in making sure that there was good personal trainiing and development on offer especially with the days away from branch spent with the other interns
I wouldn't mind working with HSBC in the future. While I may be critical of how my placement turned out it is clear that this is not always the case and having seen other potential jobs within the company the interest in working here is good.
The Culture
The interns were forever trying to get together to do activites or go out together so with regards to the social scene I really can't complain
Living anywhere in London is a costly experience. the cost of getting a decent lunch in my area was greater than I had expected and as such my pocket really felt it!
I really wouldn't know as I didn't feel particularly drawn to try it out
There was ample opportunity to see get involved but I was not particularly drawn to any as none really captured my interests
