The Role
I really enjoyed the environment that I was working in and the people.
There is only so much an intern can do due to the nature of the work which I realised before I went. However I found everyone was very friendly and willing to have a chat about any questions I had related to work and paid an interest in where I was at University or how my weekend was.
There was no one person who looked after me as I was moving around weekly within a department. However whichever sub section of the department I was in there was always one or two people who would look after me and have a daily chat about how I was finding things and what was going on.
I was never over loaded with work! I had the intern charity project which kept me busy a lot of the time. A lot of it was shadowing how brokers did business in Lloyds and talking through accounts and processes that they used. However I also did a few spreadsheets and emails. I never got realy bored.
Not a huge amount to be honest, but I dont think that neccessarily matters. I feel I have a much better overview of how the insurance industry works. I spoke to many under 25's in my dpeartment and they all seemed to have good levels of responsibilty which I thought was excellent.
The Company
The balance between hard work and fun was perfect.
Very good.
We went to wednesday morning Aon School to learn more about Marine insurance which was very useful and sat in on various presentations about the market.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I would love to go back there. What appealed to me was speaking to the young members of the department who all loved their jobs and seemed to recommend a career in the industry.
The Culture
I saw the other interns for lunch most days which was good. Within my department I was welcomed and included in drinks after work which was a great way to get to know everyone better.
The City of London was fairly pricey as one would expect!
London has a wide range of nightlife to suite everyone which was great.
The charity project helped in this aspect as it gave us the chance to organise a pub quiz.
