The Role
A nice company with a god work/life balance, however days were often filled with mundane tasks
Often felt like I was a productive member of the team and feedback was always welcome, although it could have been more frequent. Made to feel welcome early on with a few team pub lunches
Didn't see much of my manager but other members of the team were quite supportive. Met with manager twice over the internship to update me on how she thought I was doing following feedback from other members of the team, could hav ebeen more frequent
Slow to begin with but it picked up. Had one very busy week where I got a bit stressed. Would have liked more of these busy weeks as it made you feel more involved and felt like you were learning more.
Initially given very little but after requesting some more from my manager I was soon given a few individual projects as well as my own clients to compile reports for.
The most significant improvement came in my 'soft skills'- communication, time management and confidence. Technical skills improved slightly, learnt most when I asked questions to certain knowledgeable team members but formal training was basic and lacking.
The Company
Business like whilst relaxed and friendly although lacked much social activities.
The training and inductions were set up well. However when I got to my office it was as if no one other than my team knew I was coming- I had a log in for the wrong system, I didn't get an email address for over 2 weeks, still not on the mailing lists 8 weeks in, still havnt had my expenses refunded from a month ago as no one can find my login and I'm still trying to reclaim money taken out of my account for a Pension scheme which was kindly set up for me!
There was very basic training on markets and pensions for a day at the begining. Besides that training has been limited to a few conference calls. As mentioned before I learnt most when asking questions
A nice friendly company but I had many problems with them- this can be put down to bad luck as other interns didn't have the same problems whilst other issues can be put down to continued teething problems relating to the merger between Aon and Hewitt. Given this I would work for them in a bigger, livelier office.
The Culture
A few nice lunches to begin with but generally social scene was lacking- we even moved office half way through following 15 years at the old one and the organised pub crawl only lasted a couple of hours before petering out.
I live in the next town along so had a very short cheap commute. The town in general is reasonable for a night out
There was a weekly kick about but thats about it
