The Role
Interesting work with really friendly people
Everyone was really friendly, and were keen to give me a chance to work on a lot of different things during my time. They would also always keep me up to date with the bigger picture behind the job with regards to whichever client it was, and why we would do jobs in certain ways depending on which client it was for.
Regular catch up meetings with my manager, and my buddy sat next to me as well for any problems I came across in my work
It was very rare I had nothing on my desk, and whenever a colleague was going to pass on a job, they would always check I wasn't too busy before they did, so I had the oppurtunity to manage my own workload
All the pieces of work in the office are seen by a consultant before being sent to the client in general, so I was often completing first drafts of work which would then be checked. We were also given the responsibilty of working with a Charity as a client on a Corporate Social Responsibility project throughout the internship. I also got the oppurtunity to sit in on some client conference calls
Really useful experience of working in an office, and seeing how the corporate environment interacts with clients
The Company
Good atmosphere, and good social life in the office with lots of after work and lunchtime activities
Good set up with the project to focus on (or for if you were ever low on work to fall back on), while also experiencing the day to day work of being an actuary
They want you to learn and pick up skills, so a lot of colleagues will give up time to help you really understand a job and know where it fits in the business
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Really good company to work for, they seem to want you to learn and develop as well as everyone being really friendly and enjoyable to work with.
The Culture
The Project team was spread out across different offices, so it was good that you got to know people who you werent necessarily working with. Also within the Leeds office, there was interns in many different departments, so you got to know quite a few different people
Depending where you went it could be relatively cheap or realtively expensive, but there was alot of oppurtunity for socialising
Leeds is a great night out!
Yes. As well as after work events organised by the company there was also events organised by colleagues for special occasions, and the oppurtunity to organise what you want to do. As part of my project I held a Pub Quiz after work, and I also organised a squash ladder among people in my department after work each week.
