The Role
Very interesting company to work for. A lot of enjoyable events and extra schemes to help you.
I worked in an international team, and felt extremely valued and part of the team as soon as I joined. When managing projects and putting forward new ideas, everyone was very supportive and grateful for the work.
Excellent support and guidance from my manager.
At times I would have far too much work to do, but then I could delegate this or postpone deadlines if appropriate.
I was never micro-managed. I often would take on my own projects and manage them myself without the need to go back and forth for approvals. My manager would give me assignments or events to run and would simply assist if need be but I felt trusted and valued with the responsibilty I had.
Although the placement did not match my degree title specifically, and therefore I have felt somewhat de-skilled in terms of coding and "technical IT". However, it is difficult to find an IT placement in such a large organisation where you must be extremely technical, as they all out-source these things. Whilst I negleted somewhat my technical skills, I learnt a huge amount of life/personal skills such as with presenting, teaching and the use of enterprise software such as SharePoint.
The Company
There is a generation gap in Ford Motor Company as the recruitment has only just restarted. Therefore, although the office folk were nice enough, the age gap was evident and until I met the other interns and graduates, it was a bit dull.
The assesment centre was great. However after that, the process was poor. This was because we were the first batch of interns that Ford have recruited an a while, but it was still very bad. I did not get to know the location of where I would be based until very late, I did not get a job description other than "IT Business Placement Scheme" and I could not contact other interns until I joined. This meant it was costly and difficult to arrange accomodation.
Ford have a scheme called EDAP which is funding for educational and development opportunities. You can use it for anything that grants you a certificate in this realm; such as kiteboard instructor, PADI scuba diving, french lessons, etc. Whilst the non-work related funding is excellent, the internal training is poor and there is limited budget as well as an approval process which takes far too long.

Maybe in a different sector/function of Ford Motor Company which is based in London. But as the head offices are based in Essex, I personally don't wish to live there again.
The Culture
"Tame", but nice enough. There was a good group of people who all got along, and once the graduates joined, it was much more social and fun.
Terribly expensive for such an awful location. You would pay "London prices" for somewhere that doesn't have much to offer.
Brentwood - home of "The Only Way is Essex". I was hoping the sterotypes were false, and there was more to this area than meets the eye. But there isn't...and the sterotypes are true and even encouraged. Unless you're into that kind of nonsense, it's tragic.
40 mins train into Liverpool Street isn't bad, but getting back is an issue if it's late. Also, there isn't much I could do in Brentwood so would travel to Basildon to wakeboard and go back to uni for weekends.
