The Role
Overall it was a really useful and enjoyable experience!
I felt really valued by most. The most important thing here was that people were always willing and had the time to talk to me and guide me through anything they had asked me to do.
I was not always in contact with my official supervisor but my 'buddy' each week gave me plenty of guidance and support and they all seemed interested in why I was there and where I wanted to be after this. They offered support to help me with my interview in the final week
Depending on what job I was in and who I was working with the amount of work changed. But in the SVS scheme you a required to do a presentation in the final week so whenever I didn't have any official work I could get on with planning that which was nice
There were plenty of smaller tasks but also ones with responsibility. For example, my tasks ranged from printing out documents I had tracked on the system to liasing with the client during a week in audit about cash, invoices and testing
At the beginning of the placement all the interns go for a weekend away which includes team building activities, help with presentation skills, interview skills and more. Despite dreading these types of events normally, this one was the most useful I have ever done and gave me plenty of skills that will be useful in any type of job
The Company
Much more friendly and welcoming than I had expected. I had gone into it expecting to be potentiallu side-lined for more important work but I was treated like one of them and never ignored. They were all interested in what I had to say
Really well organised! I was given a Buddy and Champion for each week who were my points of contact. They had work for me to do and gave me feedback at the end of each week that went towards my final interview. They also made sure all the interns were invitied to any social events that were on
They gave us all online training in audit, tax and other areas. They invested plenty of their own time in us and by the end of it we had a really good understanding of what their jobs entailed and how to use the programs they used
Still waiting on the final interview!
The Culture
Yes. It was nice that all the graduates join in fairly big year group sizes so they all regularly went out together and often invited us
Not too expensive. Parking was £5 a day which I thought was good!
Really good but not a great chance to go out with 9am starts!
The office had a fair few sports clubs and social events that we were invited to
