    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work is very boring and they do not seem to have a formal training programme for interns. Therefore, all the full-time employees dump their worst work on the interns. Also, the job is very dull for the first 4 to 5 years meaning that quality work will not come your way for a long time.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Only one or two out a 20 plus team made me feel valued and appreciated. Others did not value me at all and made me feel as if I was there just to do the tasks that they couldn't be bothered to do.

    2/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There is very little support available. There is a buddy/counsellor system set up but often they are out of the office or on vacation meaning they are not there to help. If they are, they are not honest with you most of the time. This depends on office and team because I met a great counsellor as well but unfortunately he wasn't in my department.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The majority of time I was bored because I had little or very unchallenging jobs. However, other times I was too busy because I was given difficult work without any training/advice/guidance. This meant I had to spent countless hours trying to figure everything out myself.

    1/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the right amount of responsibility for an intern in most cases.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It might seem counterintuitive that I rate this specific question so highly due to the low marks in every other aspect of the job but I truly believe that through this experience I have developed a great number of skills which I can use for both future studies and employment. A few of the skills I developed were greater business ingenuity, learning independently and communication/team working.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • What you would expect from an accountants' office. However, there were a few people that were really enjoyable and fun so that really helped make things way more interesting.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship lacked good organisation and seemed to be based on just having interns turn up and do whatever is available. Also, no formal training sessions were set up and I had to just learn everything by myself.

    1/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As said above, there was no training available expect for e-learning programmes which were optional. I completed a few and found them to be moderately useful, but the same amount of learning there could be achieved in a tenth of the time if it had been face to face.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The work is very boring for around the first 6 years you are with the company and the working hours are very long. Also, the company culture is the opposite of what is advertised online and in recruitment events.

    1/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Great bunch of interns to enjoy the internship with! Really good fun in that aspect!

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Quite good prices but beware some of the fancier bars/restaurant as you could blow a lot of money there.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Great nightlife if thats your thing! always something to do! :)

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was one CSR day which was very cool as it let us give back to the community and help out the less fortunate.

    2/5
