The Role
The company did a lot to encourage us to have fun outside the internship, arranging extra social events and opportunities to interact with other interns.
Those in my team invested time in training me up, and by the end I was trusted to produce documents which eventually became part of the official documentation for the client.
Guidance was given whenever my supervisor was able to devote some time to me - relatively frequently, but sometimes they were just too busy.
It took several weeks to get going before my workload filled more than half of the day.
I gained official documentation responsibilities as the team became more confident in my abilities as the internship progressed.
The experiences I gained in the two areas I was able to shadow will greatly benefit my employability and knowledge of how to operate some reasonably technical schemes.
The Company
I was away on a client site for a large amount of the internship, and the team were quite stretched with workload, so there wasn't a lot of opportunity in the office for a laugh. The general atmosphere was much better at head office.
Graduate Recruitment Team were excellent - my only moan is that the photocopies of my passport were lost, so I had to visit the office an additional time to take the copy so they could verify it with the original. However, paperwork misplacements happen!
It was only a 5 week placement (shorter because of the Olympics), so there was not a lot of opportunity to invest in me other than the time managers could give during the internship to train me.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
EY's offer rate is very high, there were even internal news postings and posters reminding staff to treat the interns well and give them an excellent visit, with a view to increasing the offer acceptance rate.
The Culture
Socials were organised by the intern group as a whole, our small group of interns in our department, and officially by the organisation.
Central London Zone 1? Not cheap! Staying with family was the way forward.
I used the opportunity to travel around London, see the sights and visit family in the area rather than experience the nightlife.
Much socialisation and drinks, opportunities to be a buddy for other colleagues.
