    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall it was really enjoyable, you have to appreciate that it won't be thrilling all the time and you have to go through some boring parts to get to the good enjoyable bits.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The workplace was incredibly friendly. Everyone spoke to everyone else and always involved me in the conversations whether it be work or pleasure. I really felt part of the team from day 1.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Ernst & Young have a very strong support network for their interns, you have the person you are working with, then you have a buddy, a careers counsellor, and then the intern manager. All these people you meet and are very friendly. Any queries I had I could ask anyone of these people with confidence

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days were slow whether there wasn't much to do, this was really down to clients dragging their heels. There were some days where you will work constantly from start to finish, these are the really good days!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Initially until they gauge your ability then the work is relatively simple, then its your responsibility to ask for harder work, or a different type of work. I was lucky where my supervisor noticed my accounting ability early on so was given I higher grade of work.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think my accounting modules at uni assisted with my internship and likewise what I have learnt from my internship will assist me with my degree in my final year.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Leeds office was brilliant, everyone was so friendly, so much so I can't wait to get back there! When we were out of the office working as a team onsite, again its not all work we had a good group dynamic and managed to get the work done whilst enjoying ourselves

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organised, I knew where I would be working and on what day, from the first day. The work on each of my jobs was not always quite so well planned but this was down to information not coming through from the client quick enough.

    0/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As it is only a 6 week internship the firm concentrated on giving you an insight into most things that you expect to encounter in the day to day operating of the job. There is an induction at the start which gives you a company overview and aides in your development.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would jump at the chance to work for EY. The people that work there really make the place, and make it an exciting young working environment.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We all arranged to go out for a meal and drinks each week, this way we could discuss any issues that we had.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in student halls and found this cheap and cheerful. Leeds is relatively cheap compared to the south in general.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Leeds has a superb nightlife, there is something for everyone there.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The company is very keen on charity participation and there is the opportunity to volunteer. There are office sports teams which would can join, and we were invited to join even though we were only there for 6 weeks!
