The Role
Working at Standard Life was very enjoyable - the people were great, the work interesting and I gained invaluable experience.
Everyone went out of their way to get to know me and make settling in very easy. On the welcome day the CEO spoke to the new graduates and interns showing how much they value us.
Task backgrounds, objectives and expectations were explained to me well and I was actively encouraged to ask lots of questions but I was also encouraged to take responsibility for my work and have some level of independance.
It varied across the whole internship but I never felt I had too much work and never had too little.
The work I was doing was similar to work full time employees may do, so a high amount of responsibility for an intern.
The skills I have gained will without a doubt be useful for my final year of university and also if I go ahead with training to be an actuary.
The Company
Professional yet enjoyable atmosphere, the people are very nice and friendly.
Very well, there was always suitable work for me to do that would give me an accurat insight to working here. There were also lunch and learns organised so that we could learn about other parts of the company.
People from across the company always had time to talk to me to help me understand, develop and make the most of the experience.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
There is a position available on the graduate scheme at the end of the internship however I won't know until a few weeks after finishing.
The Culture
Yes everyone was sociable and friendly, with a group of us living in the Standard Life flats meeting up regularly in the evenings and at weekends. My team also had a social which was great to get to speak to my colleagues away from a work environment.
Standard Life paid for my accommodation, and I found the cost of living similar to similar nice places in the UK and a lot cheaper than London.
Plenty of stuff to do, loads of pubs, clubs and bars and with the festival on over the summer everything goes on until very late!
The company has various sports teams and social committees that run events. Also had a team social.
