The Role
The internship was a fantastic experience. The social life was amazing and the work environment was great.
My colleagues genuinely appreciated my contributions and I was quickly accepted and integrated into my team.
Ernst & Young have a feedback system so I was notified of my strengths and weaknesses throughout the placement. Many of my colleagues gave up a lot of their time to explain things to me.
There were times when I was extremely busy and only a couple of occasions where I had 'downtime' or relatively little to do. As the internship progressed, more work would become available and of very different varieties also.
I felt that I was given a good amount of responsibility, considering the length of the placement.
I learned a lot! About all sort of areas as well. But in particular I developed my organisational skills, which were extremely important for the job. I wouldn't say these will contribute towards my degree, but in any future job I am sure I will appreciate the improvement.
The Company
I felt there was a good atmosphere in the office. It still had a corporate feel but everyone sits together, i.e. all grades and levels, which was good.
The placement was amazingly organised. There was a dedicated team for the summer internship program, who were employees at E&Y from various service lines. There were events on at least every week organised by this team. They were extremely friendly and approachable and made the internship very enjoyable!
I felt that the firm invested a lot of time in me. Considering that the internship is essentially a 5 week job interview, I was treated like an employee and a lot of time was dedicated to teaching me the skills necessary and integrating me into the firm.
Sports and Social Club
Since completing the internship I have received a job offer and I intend on accepting it!
The Culture
The social life was incredible. Because of the sheer number of interns (c.130) there were so many interesting people to get to know and we went out at least once a week. Colleagues also made an effort to go for drinks and socialise.
Well London isn't exactly cheap...but I lived at home so that wasn't so bad!
The nightlife was great! Albeit a little expensive in comparison to places outside of London but it was definitely worth it.
There are plenty of things to get involved in outside of work. In particular, E&Y have three 11-a-side football teams which are completely funded by the firm. Unfortunately because of the placement being in the summer this wasn't available to me, but I intend on getting involved when I join the firm.
