The Role
The work was challenging, as expected, but I enjoyed the process very much, I felt like I could work in this firm for a long time.
I felt very comfortable working with my colleagues, everything was so nice, and not a bad word could be said about any one. For me, it was one of the key reasons why I want to continue on working for this firm.
My counsellor was extremely helpful in giving guidance and support throughout the internship. We got on really well, and I really felt respected and cared for.
I was very busy at most times with very minimal downtime, I always had at least two tasks to do, and always knew who to talk to for work, my colleagues were also very good in approaching us for work.
I felt like most of the work I was given seemed and were important, and that what I produce to given to the client, so I always felt responsible to produce high quality work.
I felt like I can time management better, understand my limits - I know how much work and difficulty of work I can handle at a given period of time. I've learnt how to understand people better, and be more considerate in approaching them for work. I am definitely a more hard working individual, and I now see things in a different perspective.
The Company
Even when everyone was busy for work, most people would still care to take a five minute break and have a nice chat. As I have said earlier, everyone is so nice and approachable that they always have to time to help and chat.
My internship went very smoothly, everyone knew what was going on, and what will go on.
Most of the work I did was to do with my department, tax, but what I've realised was that everything I did built, not only my tax knowledge but, my personal development. In my opinion, in the short term, it is a liability teaching us how to do the work, when they could do it faster and better, but it all pays off in the long term when we all know how to do the work. So, yes, I felt like the company has invested a lot into us "SIPs" (Summer Intern Programme).
I'm still waiting for that phone call! Fingers crossed!
The Culture
I don't understand what is meant by a social scene.
About the same as London. (I worked in Reading)
Decent.
The department was very nice in organising events for us SIPs. Also, I got on really well with the other SIPs and still stay in touch.
