The Role
The internship has given me a good view into how industry differs from what you're told at university. Being involved has been so beneficial and helpful for future applications.
A strange time to be working there as the factory is undergoing site closure yet all staff are friendly and helpful.
The management and all other staff were always there to help regarding any matters. No qualms whatsoever with that. Everyone knows you will have got the job to learn more in the area so they will always help.
Work was slow due to the site closure holding up proceedings so work was slow and opportunities to flourish rare. I wouldn't say it reflects bad on the company but it was just the situation that I was under.
Given a full project to work alongside other interns in procurement and legal with. Good to see how it works in all other areas!
Definitely helped, 100%. Will no doubt serve me well as experience for another placement or graduate position in the future!
The Company
Site closure had brought down the morale a bit amongst the staff but despite that, I still had fun with the other interns and the staff. There was a job to do and they just got on with it!
The project was set up around week 5 of 12 and given till the end of the internship to present our findings on the subject title. Was a good experience and one that was well organised by the line managers. Main day-to-day tasks were not well organised as the jobs were not coming in.
Bought training courses to learn how to use the CAD software that was used in house. Good to learn different software techniques and always good to put on the CV too.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Can work in the USA, Australia, Saudi Arabia as well as the UK. Definitely going to carry on to apply there!
The Culture
It was based in Newcastle - the Toon. Party central. I study in Newcastle too so it was perfect. The nightlife is amazing.
Already had student accommodation there so it was cheap as chips!
Amazing. The best I've been to. It is Newcastle, after all. It has a reputation for being amazing.
You do see advertisements around the place for offers to get involved in, sports teams etc. Being there for 12 weeks limited the time available to apply for that sort of thing. If it was an industrial placement, I definitely would have taken up the 5 a side football!
