The Role
Excellent internship! Certainly felt like I learned many new skills and that I was encouraged to develop myself as much as possible. NI are genuinely interested in ensuring you feel valued and that you are using your time effectively to further yourself and your career.
Absolutely regarded as one of the team. Everyone is always happy to help. You also recieve lots of excellent benefits.
Regular meetings to assess progress and management is very approachable at any time.
Kept busy with a variety of different tasks. Can certainly be challenging at times and developing skills to manage your time is very important.
Job is very similar to first year graduate program. You are expected to speak with customers and be responsible for their issues and challenges immediately after initial training. Responsibility for teaching and training also available as soon as you are comfortable to take it.
Lots of time and effort is spent training and learning new skills. You speak with real customers dealing with real engineering challenges which are actively affecting their businesses.
The Company
Everyone gets on in the office and there are regular trips and events organised both by work officially (often paid for too!) and individuals in the office.
NI have has many iterns over the years and so are very experienced in ensuring your time is well spent. Feedback is continually sought so improvements can be made.
Extensive & professional initial training was carried out to ensure you had the basic skills to do your job. Training courses undertaken are not only valued internally but also by other companies. Then throughout the year there are weekly training opportunities to both undertake and deliver training.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
NI have plenty of promotion opportunity as the company continues growing every year. Most opportunity is sales related which would require extensive travelling. This is still firmly engineering focussed but if this is not for you, there may not be much opportunity.
The Culture
Interns often live together and host regular gatherings and parties.
The Newbury area is very expensive in terms of rent and eating/drinking out.
Nearby Reading offers more in terms of nightlife. Newbury is more focussed towards good pubs and good restaurants.
Participation is very high in the annual raft race. A number of people from the office regularly run and play football together.
