    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It really depended on how well I got on with the people. I had a great time on my first desk but on my second, I didn't enjoy the type of work so I went and spoke to other desks I was interested in.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As above. Probably about 8/10 for first desk and not at all on my second.

    2/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • As above. Lots of support on the first desk. Very little on the second.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Busy on first rotation. Bored on second - got work from other desks to occupy my time.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Nothing at all. Apart from writing the minutes for the morning meeting, but even then they never read it so probably could have lived without it.

    1/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have no idea how much these skills will help me in my degree. I'm still on my university summer holiday. I think it will have helped me hugely in applications to jobs and understanding the work place.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Fun never stopped in Commodities. Miserable 90% of the time on fixed income and FX floor.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • HR did a good job on the whole but there was very little uniformity as to what was expected of the interns from MDs.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was able to spend lots of time with people who would patiently talk me through what they were doing until I understood.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • But only with particular desks.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The intern class were really outgoing and interesting to talk to.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Well... after this salary, my perspective on value has changed very much.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Depends how you define the area. Around St Paul's it wasn't great.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Apart from the trading game... No.

    2/5
