The Role
It really depended on how well I got on with the people. I had a great time on my first desk but on my second, I didn't enjoy the type of work so I went and spoke to other desks I was interested in.
As above. Probably about 8/10 for first desk and not at all on my second.
As above. Lots of support on the first desk. Very little on the second.
Busy on first rotation. Bored on second - got work from other desks to occupy my time.
Nothing at all. Apart from writing the minutes for the morning meeting, but even then they never read it so probably could have lived without it.
I have no idea how much these skills will help me in my degree. I'm still on my university summer holiday. I think it will have helped me hugely in applications to jobs and understanding the work place.
The Company
Fun never stopped in Commodities. Miserable 90% of the time on fixed income and FX floor.
HR did a good job on the whole but there was very little uniformity as to what was expected of the interns from MDs.
I was able to spend lots of time with people who would patiently talk me through what they were doing until I understood.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
But only with particular desks.
The Culture
The intern class were really outgoing and interesting to talk to.
Well... after this salary, my perspective on value has changed very much.
Depends how you define the area. Around St Paul's it wasn't great.
Apart from the trading game... No.
