The Role
The placement improved over time as I began to understand the department and what was required of me. This wasn't made clear early on and it probably took me about 4 of the 10 weeks to understand what I was required. However, once I began to understand my role I enjoyed the placement more.
I felt valued towards the end but not at the start. People began welcoming me more as I began to find my feet and the general office atmosphere was friendly and I felt like I could join in conversations more.
My manager supported me throughout the placement despite being incredibly busy. We set up weekly calls with each other to monitor my progress for key tasks and I was usually given a contact within the business to get my work reviewed.
For 3 of the 10 weeks I was extremely busy and was under pressure to deliver (which I enjoyed) but apart from that I was able to take a lot of time over tasks. I didn't really have any daily admin duties or anything like that.
I was given a lot of responsibility in terms of delivering key business documents to different business areas. I didn't find this difficult to cope with and enjoyed feeling like my work was an important addition to projects.
Business analyst / report writing skills will always be useful in a business environment in the future.
The Company
Unique atmosphere that was mostly very welcoming despite being very quiet at times - the atmosphere improved as time went on and I now feel like I fit in with this department.
I always felt like I had someone to turn to and the role was found efficiently. The accommodation was set up well and it was nice to see that companies are spending money on students for the future. However, there were times when I felt like I had been put in a role that wasn't really suited to my skills and this is why I haven't given it a higher rating.
The company sent me on an expensive training course and I was encouraged to sign up to more. If I had more time here then I know I would have been allowed to go on more training courses.

I feel there is a massive opportunity for future development here and there is a big chance of getting a graduate role here in 2010. I am definitely interested in the grad scheme, although definitely not in the area I've worked in this summer - that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the role, I just have realised it's not for me.
The Culture
Socialising was great - plenty of students organising a wide range of events e.g. Ascot horse racing day out / nights out in London. I was aware the social scene was good in Staines/Windsor offices but not so good in other parts of the country.
It was expensive to socialise but then it always is anywhere near London. I would prefer to be in London paying more to socialise than live in a quiet cheaper area. You get what you pay for really and London is a quality place to be around. Staines wasn't a great local town but it generally had everything you needed.
Nightlife was good in London / Kingston / Windsor but Staines didn't have much going for it to be honest.
Could have joined cricket/football teams and was offered to on several occasions but couldn't do it unfortunately.
