The Role
just looking at pipe dope was a bit dull but once got into the project.... it was actually very intersting
BP is a good company to work for where there is a friendly working environment
I did't really get involved too much with management, however my liner manager was extremly helpfull for all aspects of my internship
I always had work to being doing with extra jobs coming up throughout the placement
as my project was more of a research project, i didnt have that much resposibility. however when working offshore i felt i had more, and got more respect from everyone.
I am a chemical engineer by background and was looking at mechanical engineering type of stuff.... so i learned alot of information but not relevent to my course. However, this info will be extremly helpful in my future career in the oil and gas industry
The Company
everyone in the office made you seem welcome....
I had a bit of a muddle up between working in aberdeen and London but appart from that.... everything was well organised.
BP sent me offshore which only 2 of us got to do. I already had my training but sending someone offshore is still expensive. I attended presention classes and went to see several vendors which helped in uinderstanding several problems
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Dont seem to pay as well as other operators for their challenge program (after uni)
The Culture
Interns stayed in halls and seemed to have a great laugh. Since i am from aberdeen i stayed at home with my parents and missed out a bit on the social seen but no doubt, the "bantar" was good.
aberdeen wasn't that expensive to work in.... however transport costs in petrol out to dyce was quite alot!
night life was good, but not as good as edinburgh. I am prob being biased here as i'm from aberdeen though!
BP never took us out or anything but the interns organised a few nights out with the challengers (challenger is a program undertaken for the first 3 yeras after graduation)
