The Role
I worked in a tax department in the Reading Office, it was relatively interesting and I feel I learned a lot about the day to day workings withing a tax department.
Most of my colleagues showed an interest in my development and worked hard in order to ensure that I was always occupied.
My supervisors was away for 2 weeks on holiday during my 6 week placement, meaning during the middle part of my placement I lacked guidance.
I was busy with things most days, though did have to go looking for work.
I was given responsibility for the work I did.
I feel that I was able to develop my skills, particularly communication and presentation.
The Company
Working in Reading was a relatively enjoyable experience and the atmosphere was generally quite relaxed.
The central organisation of the placement was of a very high quality, however, in the office a bit more communication would have been better.
Many people were willing to give me a considerable amount of time in order to talk me through the work they were asking me to do.
Reasonably appealing but I would not be interested in working in Reading.
The Culture
Among the interns there was a very good social scene.
Reading is not expensive, however, it is not cheap either. Train travel was reasonably priced.
The nightlife was good fun, but not great quality.
There were a couple of socials in which I got involved.
