The Role
I enjoyed my intership alot. It gave me a chance to really see what investment banking is like and get a first hand feel for the day to day activities
All my team members have been very appreciative of my help on the desk.
It takes a few days to get to know everyone, but if you take a proactive approach everyone is very approachable and willing to help.
It depends alot desk to desk. Some desks have alot of work that you as an intern can help on some desks have very technical and individualistic work which means you can't do much but can always listen in and observe. I wasn't very busy on a daily basis at all.
Some of the material you work on is used in client pitches and I think that's great responsibility entrusted on you.
The training was not very efficient. Most of the thing we learnt did not apply to my division and I didn't use at all. Learning on the job powerpoint and excel skills that you pick up are vital. Learning to be more proactive is again very usefull.
The Company
Again it depends on which desk you are on. If you're on a desk with senior managers its quite usually very formal if there's a mixture then there's always light banter to brighten up your day
The work placements been very well organised by HR and the department.
We had a week of training. General overviews of the whole back and specific divisions. However we were in CMO but got coupled with IBD training which I didn't find usefull. I didn't use any of the things we were taught at in the training.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
We have a presentation pending. Shall let you know if I get it.
The Culture
All the other interns are very sociable and always happy to help one another.
Quite expensive. In canary wharf. Lunch is averages at about 6 pounds. I don't know about living as I lived at home.
Lots of pubs around
WE had a volunteering day which was optional. I did it was very rewarding and a fun day out of the office
