The Role
My internship at Aon has been a very enjoyable experience. I think the way Aon have organised and structured the programme allows all the interns across the many offices to have an opportunity to have fun whilst also learning and developing. I also found that because all the staff members were approachable and friendly, I was able to develop a professional relationship whilst also sharing a joke or common interest.
During the whole internship I always felt like a member of the team and all work/input was greatly appreciated. This appreciation encouraged me to maintain a high standard of work but also improve my productivity.
The support was excellent as being allocated a manager and buddy allowed me to have a point of call for any issues. I was also made aware of other support staff, which meant I had a range of options if my buddy/manager were busy.
As an average over the internship, my daily workload meant I was kept active/busy. Nevertheless, there were weeks when I did not have much work but my proactive approach to the internship allowed me to quickly find work in other areas of the business like General Consultancy.
The amount of responsibility I was given increased over the internship which is understandable. I did not expect to interact with clients or do important work straight away, however, as I slowly progressed through the internship I was given more responsibility. This came in the many forms and included sending out emails externally and chairing internal meetings.
The internship has both provided me with new technical skills whilst also developing my personal skills. These skills will ultimately help me at university and beyond as things like workload management or networking are common place in university or the workplace, whether at Aon or else where.
The Company
The office was generally a friendly and fun environment even when everyone was busy, however, you were still expected to maintain the high productivity levels.
The internship is very well structured and organised so from start to finish I always knew what was going on and when things are likely to occur.
Aon has invested in me through a range of training events regionally and general career support.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Future employment prospects are good as long as candidates are suited to the organisation. This is reassuring as it means hard work is rewarded and recognised.
The Culture
Between both the fellow interns and colleagues the social activities were plentiful and ranged from group meals to 5-a-side football. Also the social on the first night is a very nice way to start the internship.
Working outside london and near home meant any costs were kept low. Aon also pay for parking at the office which is very handy.
There are a range of pubs and restaurants near the office and a few nightclubs in neighbouring towns.
Almost every week there were opportunities to do activities outside work and could range from a trip to the local pub to a night out at the races.
