The Role
It was a good placement, with real work to do and supportive colleagues. I just found that it wasn't the job to suit my personality.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. They were always willing to offer support when I found things difficult and praise when I had done things well.
I always had the support of my manager and entire team. There was no one who I did not feel I could ask for help. I was given guidance and work in the beginning and allowed to form work of my own as I became more confident.
There were times when I didn't have enough to do, however most of the time during my placement I had a good balance of work.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement, but at a pace and level I felt comfortable with. I was allowed to manage my own projects and work just like any other member of the team.
I think the project management, presentation and communication skills I have learnt in my role will be useful for the rest of my life.
The Company
Balance between work and play. Social events where always a highlight. Friendly atmosphere between colleagues at lunchtime.
My team had a good idea of the work I would be doing during my placement. However the company as a whole was not very structured for placements outside of Engineering Disciplines.
My role involved mostly on the job training rather than formal classroom style training. This suited the role I had and was relevant to me. However to show as transferable skills some formal training would have been useful.

Knowing I would be confident and capable at the job is appealing. However I have discovered that office work is not for me, therefore the future prospect of working with this company are not currently high on my list.
The Culture
There was a good social scene amongst the students on the placement, and there was a good social atmosphere amongst my department of colleagues.
Bristol is quite expensive to live and socialise, especially in certain areas, however you will still be able to afford a bit of fun out of your wages.
Night-life in Filton is limited, however in Central Bristol there are lots a clubs and bars and a great atmosphere whatever your tastes.
There were lots of opportunities for charity fund raising at and outside of work. There were also many development activities for engineering students. There were not very many of there opportunities for students not studying engineering. But this is an engineering company, that is their focus.
