The Role
Overall it was a very enjoyable experience, although some spots were slightly less fun.
The employees were very nice and certainly made sure that I felt at home during my placement.
My supervisor made sure that I knew what I was doing but left me to get down to the nitty-gritty on my own which was ideal.
The hours were fairly flexible so some days I wasn't quite as busy as others but in general there was just about the right amount of work.
I was allowed free reign over my own project although there were quite a few guidelines which were basically there to stop me going off track.
While not directly relevant to my degree course the skills will be beneficial in other aspects of my life, especially if I go into programming at a later date.
The Company
It was quite a small office so there was a fairly tightly knit community.
It was incredibly well set up, with a number of project possibilities for a wide range of different areas of software programming.
I definitely felt that Metaswitch wanted to make sure that I made the most out of my time there, if I was unsure of something my supervisor would always ensure that I thoroughly understood how to deal with the situation
I'm definitely considering applying.
The Culture
Absolutely, there were two student houses and there was a lot of socialising outside the placement.
It was quite expensive in quite a lot of places but not terrible as such.
There were a lot of really cool pubs to hang out in but not really a club night life per se.
A few minor things.
