The Role
Un-rewarding placement. Projects given did not carry extensive responsibility and were researched based in my specific department. Position therefore worked towards no deadlines and was not challenging. Did not stretch my skills and was very very loosely related to my degree in Aeronautical Engineering
Valued by colleagues to a fair extent as part of the team. Willing to help and provide advice.
Manager was a sub contractor so was rarely there, also had a high workload so was oftern unavailable and was not in a position to manage an intern, a position which requires a fair amount of guidance
Work was self directed and un motivating, setting a broad and unspecific project, led to boredom through self direction of work.
Limited responsibility with research work- has no ultimatum if successful or not
Developed knowledge of the company and for working in the industry only. My skills however were not challenged (degree specifically), however will have developed my dissertation writing skills from compiling a 45k word report as my 6 month project
The Company
Slow moving environment lacking change
As an overall business, well organised, however the roles of the specific departments were lacking
Not allowed to participate in any training not directly linked to the role. Visit to Broughton manufacturing facility on 2 occasions was however worthwhile
Not at all interested in pursuing a career with the company, and has potentially tainted my view of the industry
The Culture
Good atmosphere amongst interns however within a small network
In a student city the value was good
Great time in Bristol... one of the few perks of the placement
A few sports clubs in the company but otherwise all self lead
