The Role
It has been a great experience and the range of projects that I was given to complete kept my interest levels up throughout my placement.
The working environment at AkzoNobel is very unique, and I doubt there are very few companies that could replicate this. EVERYONE here is important, no matter the role or level. No person is too senior to approach and ask for guidance or help and no person is considered to be less important or not worth your time. The people at AkzoNobel really make the company what it is.
AkzoNobel have been very supportive throughout my placement and were always at hand to offer guidance or assistance if it was needed. This was not however just limited to my direct team, but infact employees from other functions and indeed other countries were just as keen to help and offer advise on request. They have been a great source of support throughout.
I think the placement has been perfectly balanced in terms of work. despite having a number of projects I never felt like I couldnt cope with the work load or meet deadlines. Sometimes I was left unable to complete tasks as quickly as I would like due to having not recieved the material from others that I needed, but I made it a goal of mine to be pro active and go out and create work for myself so I was getting the most out of my time here.
I felt like I was given a fair amount of responsibility. The projects I was working on spanned the UK&I so ultimately I had to do a good job.
My placement has been invaluable, and there are a number of skills that I will be able to take forward into my future career. More importantly though it has helped me to identify what area of business I may have a future in. Leaving AkzoNobel I have also been able to identify a couple of development areas that I can take forward into my next placement.
The Company
Busy, but always time for a break and a chat at lunch. It is clear that AkzoNobels employees love their jobs. I hardly ever saw anyone who looked like they would rather be somewhere else.
I felt the placement was organised very well.
Advise and guidence was always at hand. Sometimes I felt like it would be good to have more regular feedback though, so I could work on my development areas throughout my placement though.
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Hopefully I will be able to come back next summer and undertake a placement in the digital marketing team.
The Culture
I think there would be if I was living closer. Due to commuting from home time spent with the other interns was restricted. However this was the case for many of the other interns too.
Rarelt went out in the area, as was commuting from home. Paying rent to parents!
Didn't have a night out in the area, as was not around over the weekends
I had invites to go and play hockey, which was nice. If i was living near by I may well have done.
