The Role
The work I was asked to perform was the weakest element of the whole internship. This was not because it was too difficult, but because it was far too easy. Everything about the internship was flawlessly run and targeted at encouraging us to work for EY. The work we were assigned however was brainless and menial. We were assured that tasks such as going through infinitely many spreadsheets and changing "2011" to "2012" was a real first year task. Not ideal. Felt like my three years of top university education were undervalued.
The people I worked with and the teams I worked in were great. People were incredibly welcoming, willing to talk and share experiences. They were great fun on the socials and helpful in the workplace. Note that I was in a regional office, so this may have been specific to that.
Appropriate level of support offered, but minimal support needed for the tasks performed.
About the right amount of work, but the wrong level of difficulty.
Lots of responsibility to perform very menial tasks. The one exception was the work that result from my partner shadowing day. For three days I had an exciting open ended task to complete independently.
Learnt a few tricks in excel that I didn't know about before, and any experience of a working environment is useful for future reference.
The Company
Small regional office so fairly quiet. Few social events and not a lot of time spent with colleagues. General atmosphere was nice though. Very relaxed, with lots of people who had families and had settled down. Nice but not buzzing.
Brilliantly organised. We were scheduled from the start and knew exactly where we would be and when.
Not really existent. Work performed required no additional training as such. A few pointers on the job.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Likely to receive a grad offer. Will be considering it as an option.
The Culture
Fellow interns were great. We plan to have a reunion soon.
Quite expensive, but to be expected.
Small but enough. Only had one night out though because we were so busy.
Lots of CSR stuff. Helping needy teens get jobs etc.. Very enjoyable and rewarding.
