The Role
I really enjoyed it. It was very challenging but worthwhile, I learnt a lot and feel like I genuinely achieved something that went towards the successes of the business.
They were very welcoming; a very nice and intelligent bunch of people.
I was constantly showed the best way to do things and questions were encouraged. Feedback when necessary, both positive and negative was duly provided, with the notion to always be constructive!
I was as busy as everyone else and got a real understanding of the day to day duties of the job. I felt, and understood that everything I did fitted into a bigger picture in the way of securing a deal or providing / presenting information for a deal.
I wasn't quite running the show but I was supported in everything I did and given challenging tasks for an intern. I was allowed to make mistakes, but was shown my errors and made to understand where I had gone wrong and how I could do it differently after.
I have learnt a lot about how a business works. I have understood what is required to produce top quality work and the effort required to do so. I think this will follow me into my studies and will ensure that I will produce good work. There is a large focus on attention to detail and producing top quality work, which I think will follow me for life.
The Company
It was lively - people work hard but are also willing to socialise with you regardless of whoever you are. There is no real formal sense of hierarchy at times.
It was very well organised. The training week was thorough with a focus on soft skills. There will be more time dedicated to technical skills next year, which is the one fault with the training week, but it is possible to pick this knowledge up on the job. It should be advised that without a background in finance it is pivotal to do extra reading to offer your best.
The time that I spent with different colleagues was useful in providing me with

Unsure - I have not had a concluding review / notified of whether I have received a job offer or not, but if not the skills that I have learnt are transferable elsewhere.
The Culture
Yes all the interns got on very well together. This was especially noticeable during our group project which involved plenty of hard graft.
It was located in London therefore it is not cheap but financial compensation covered that well.
It was in London!
With regards to the area, there were plenty. The internship had plenty of speakers from different groups to notify us of what different businesses did within Macquarie. There were plenty of events organised by HR for the interns and other bank members to meet up at.
