The Role
The work was varied and at times challenging, which I very much enjoyed. My colleagues were helpful and supportive. The group project was great experience in people and business skills.
I felt very much valued as I knew the work I was doing was going to be carried on after I left and be a great help to the team in the future. After presentations, I would be given genuine feedback which really helped me improve.
My project manager was always there to guide and support me through the tasks, which I found really helpful as some parts were quite difficult. Saying that, I also found I could work independently easily and was given a lot of responsibility on my own. Also, we had weekly meetings to ensure I was on task and to discuss my later project work.
Some days I had a lot of work which was quite a challenge but the good thing is you learn how to deal with it. Other days were a bit slow with trying to understand something or delays in the task I was doing. Overall, I had plenty to do and whenever I had spare time, I asked and was given other pieces of work.
I was responsible for all the work I produced in how I managed the project, writing up and presenting the results. I know the work will be carried on in the future, I wasn't just given odd pieces of work. For the group project, the team I was in had full responsibility of all aspects of the task.
I think my presentation skills have improved and I feel more confident standing up in front of people. Also, Detica provide courses which were very useful.
The Company
Very friendly and approachable. We all had a good laugh as well as working very hard.
Very good. The people I worked with had obviously thought a lot about what work I was to do and I always felt like my work had a purpose, that I wasn't just being given anything.
Lots of courses to get involved in and socials to meet people from all over the company - very enjoyable and useful.
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
Excellent company.
The Culture
There were a lot of socials to get to know the other placement students but also people from different parts of the company, which was very useful and interesting.
I was based in London, so was quite expensive to go out!
It was great but I lived quite far so had to leave early.
Different clubs to join and also events to go to.
