The Role
I found the job to be very interesting. The work was good and the people I have worked with are first class. The activities surrounding the main work were also very good, I attended the annual conference and became involved in many other aspects of the company.
The staff were friendly and approachable. The mangers did not 'over manage' and I was left to do my own work and have meeting with them when I felt they were appropriate.
The support was good. There was plenty of training opportunities and chances to get involved in networking events.
I was left to manage my work time. It was my responsibility to ensure the daily work balance was correct.
The level of responsibility was correct for a summer placement student.
During my time at ARM I learnt or improved on many technical skills, all of which will be of use during studies and in work.
The Company
My office contained me and three other interns, the atmosphere was relaxed but also had a good work ethic.
Everything from accommodation to technical training to social events seemed well planned and thought out.
The company has a good training policy. There is a detailed induction day and regular, less formal 'lunch and learn' or 'doughnut session' training events.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
There have been discussion about a future career at the company but no formal offer.
The Culture
We planned regular events to a variety of places such as cinema, museums and pubs.
Cambridge accommodation is not cheap, roughly comparable to London prices. However the cost of socialising is less.
The night-life in Cambridge is good, many pubs for a quiet drink but if you want clubs Cambridge is probably not the best choice.
The are many social and networking events which are organised for summer students or all ARM staff.
