The Role
I enjoyed my internship at Standard Life. The company is a really good company to work for.
Everyone was very welcoming and supportive and immeadiately treated me like part of the team. Any time I asked anyone across the business for help they were always willing and happy to give me it.
You have two managers over your placement. One is a placement manager in charge of the intern programme you are on and the other is a line manager who provides you with work over the 10 weeks. Both managers were very approachable.
There were periods when I was very quiet and other periods when very busy. The nature of the poject I was on was that it was a big project as opposed to many smaller ones so I had more quiet periods than most due to waiting on responses and decisions at different steps.
I was given responsibilty over a fairly big project that could have a large impact on the company. Although there was a high level of responsibility there was also a lot of support whenever you needed it.
I have learnt a variety of skills that will assist me both at uni and when I enter into employment.
The Company
The atmosphere was good, everyone was friendly and happy.
The placement was really well organised with lots of different training sessions set up for us and opportunities to meet people across the business.
There were loads of different training sessions set up for us on a wide variety of topics.
Sports and Social Club
If your placement is succesfull you can be offerred a place on the graduate scheme for the following year.
The Culture
Many of the interns met up daily for lunch and there were also lots of different nights out organised.
I live in Edinburgh so to me it was no different. I do know that it is not the cheapest place to stay but fairly similar costs to most other big scottish cities.
the nightlife was good. Loads of different bars and clubs so there is something for everyone. As the festival was running during the internship, there were lots of shows you could go to and all the bars and clubs were open much later than usual.
I personally didn't but I know there were a lot of opportunities and different clubs you could go along to.
