The Role
Great exposure on the trading desks, people are very approachable
There was still a small feeling of the temporary status as an intern but otherwise completely fine
Any questions asked were explained thoroughly and you could approach anyone for clarification and if they had time/were knowledgeable, they would help
A main task was assigned for each rotation but could get involved in more daily tasks as well. Managers were open to getting more involved in daily tasks
Practically speaking, a trading intern cannot contribute specific value on the desk without FSA registration, it is important to be active in seeking out ways to contribute/gain responsibility (asking to book deal tickets, entering trades into the system, etc.)
Not much applicability to academia but if active in seeking skills, then you can gain extensive knowledge for the job requirements.
The Company
Interns, grads and established employees all had fun, interacted with each other when work was not too busy. It's important to get involved in these discussions because they build the familiarity and overcome the sense of you being an intern
Great planning and execution of the proramme as a whole, seamless move from intern induction week to work for most divisions
Not much specific activities but the general atmosphere encouraged personal development from senior staff to interns (meeting with the CEO/division directors for an informal discussion)
Great teams to work with, open and friendly atmosphere with almost no hierarchical barriers and a competitive trading desk.
The Culture
Depends on the intern group you end up with, most are very, very friendly and open to have a fun time. Not cutthroat or competitive as a whole at all.
Expensive as a city and social scene can be slightly costlier
Good nightlife, slightly more expensive but social scene is fun
Not really as involved but aware of many small activities that people/groups arrange on their own with each other, need to ask/actively look for them but are welcoming
