The Role
The work was challenging but thoroughly enjoyable and there was always help at hand if you got stuck with anything.
I felt like my work had real business impact and I wasn't just doing things to fill my placement time. I was invited to all graduate events and was made to feel part of the team.
I had regualar meetings with management and if I had any issues then my supervisors were usually available to assist.
Overall this was very good. Some days were very hectic with a lot to do and other days I was short of work. This was usually only an issue when my supervisor was unavailable for the day.
I was given a reasonable amount of responsibily. Tasks had real value to the business and as such there were expectations for completion to time and overall quality of completed task. I was left to myself to complete the tasks in hand although I only had to ask if I had difficulties.
My internship was completely different to my degree - although I knew that going in and was one of the main reasons for my application to Detica. I have found something I enjoy now and am hoping to go into this field at the end of my degree. I recieved training during my placement which will be valuable during the remainder of my degree as well as in my future career. Training in presentation and communication was provided which has enhanced my skill set.
The Company
People are dedicated to their work however everyone is friendly. There are many community events held by the company which enhance the morale of the staff.
Initial information wasnt forthcoming however as soon as I arrived for my induction, I was given all the information I would need and met my supervisors. From then on, everything was very well organised and I felt like my placement was very well structured.
I was given many opportunities for personal development, including training courses to improve communication and presentation skills. Further to this, I had a full training day in consultancy skills and recieved much on the job technical training.

Company Parties/Events
The company have hired many new graduates in recent years and I feel the prospects within the company are good.
The Culture
There was an end of placement party as well as frequent trips to the pub, cinema and nights out. We went Go Karting and for a few meals! There were also events put on by the company throughout my placement.
There were plenty of pubs, bars and restaurants in the area. My rent was low, £240 per month inclusive of bills, however I know others who had much higher rents than mine.
There was a wide variety of pubs and bars that were nice, from victorian-style small pubs to new flashy bars. I didnt attend any nightclubs so I can't comment on those although many graduates organise nights out in the city centre.
Yes! In particular the graduates organise many activities outside of work. These vary from clubbing to going out for a meal to Go Karting!
