The Role
Very interesting insight into the world of E&Y. I found that the 6 weeks passed very quickly and offered a lot of variety!
Everyone was extremely welcoming and offered help and advice when needed. I always felt like a valued member of the team.
If I ever had any questions I knew exactly who to contact and they always gave me the required asistance within a very short period of time.
On the odd occasion that I had no work to do I would be able to work on the Intern Project which meant I very rarely had no work to do. As I got more established I found that I rarely had time to even work on this project as there was always work to be done!
I felt that I was thrown into the deep end, but in a good way! Straight away I was working with clients and although this was scary at first, soon it become the norm.
This was a fantastic insight into the world of work and I feel much more prepared now than I did at the start of the internship. Aside from area specific skills within Audit I also learnt to manage my time far better than before.
The Company
I spent nearly all my time out of the office in audit teams of around 3/4 people. However these teams nearly always had a great atmosphere and were very welcoming.
I always felt like I knew what to do and when to do it. Induction gave a great insight into the company and then the office showed me exactly how to work within the firm.
I felt like the firm invested a lot of time in the induction/closing meet ups. Then on an office level the employees working within the small audit teams were always will to invest time in training me for the task at hand.
National Travel
E&Y are definitely a fantastic company to work for and now more than ever appear to be a firm for which I would love to work for in the future.
The Culture
I met loads of fantastic people both at my office in Newcastle and from other offices at induction/leaving. However Newcastle was a small office so there were only 4 interns. However we all got along very well and spent time with the first years who were all fantastically helpful and friendly.
Newcastle is fairly cheap compared to other major cities!
Newcastle is knon for its nightlife!
There was a coast to coast bike ride on the first week but nothing else really. Other offices had community days sorted out for the interns but Newcastle didn't, which was dissapointing.
