The Role
Very friendly team
Felt valued by the increasingly important work that was given
Given talks about NCE and change management and asked frequently how I was doing
Some days were busier than others but that is the nature of the work
I was given a major task to complete in the first few weeks and given a subcontractor to look over. I wasn't allowed to use a couple of the important costain services such as E1 or CCM but I uploaded some documents onto those with supervision.
It was excatcly what I needed.
The Company
Always people having a laugh with eachother
I would have put 10 seamless due to the great build up before the placement, tasks during and feedback throughout. However I was not told where in the UK my placement was until a month before it was to start and this was during my exam period which made it difficult to find accomondation, especially as it was a part of the UK I was not familiar with and quite far from both home and university.
Our induction day was very helpful in terms of outlining our development routes. During my placement I was encouraged to attend training classes such as Excel training and Plant segregation health and safety. I was also given talks on NCE contracts and Change Management which was very helpful.

I am on a sponsored student programme where I get sponsored throughout my degree, I complete a Summer Placement with them between my first and secound years, then and industrial placement between my 2nd and 3rd years which are payed. As long as I pass the assessment at the end of my degree and get atleast a 2:1 I am contracted to work for them for a reasonable period after my degree.
The Culture
There was only 1 other summer placement student on this site. There were some nights out which we were all envited to and golf days, although I was not able to attend the golf days.
Good prices in town, more expensive in the cities but that is to be expected.
There wasn't very good nightlife in this particular town but there were good transport links to great nightlife in neighbouring cities. As this placement involves civil engineering the projects move from place to place so nightlife depends on where the project is situated at the time.
Except for a very long bike ride in the first week and quite a few golf days which were only for golf players there was no other activities except nights out. Although there were rugby tickets availible from the local sponsored club. These activities aren't my cup of tea though.
