The Role
Slightly confusing at first, but with help was quickly able to complete tasks.
Was given a lot of responsibility. Was responsible for health and safety in my section.
Everyone from site engineers to the project manager gave me help and advice.
Most days I was busy from when I arrived at work until I left.
Full responsibility of health and safety in a section of works, and left to set out works on my own.
The surveying and setting out side of my placement help greatly, as well as the commercial and business side.
The Company
Everyone was chatty and enjoyed a joke between one and other.
Very well organised, with regular info emails, and a summer placement booklet which included a number of tasks and timeline for when they needed to be completed.
Invested a lot of time, a experience, with feedback meetings and conference calls.
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
On the companies graduate scheme, so a job at the end of university is already lined up, and I am more than happy to have the opportunity to work full time for the company.
The Culture
There were only a few other placement students on the project, so there wasn't a huge social side. Went on one night out with one other placement student.
Cost of living was reasonable, in one of the site caravans, however the socialising was pretty non existent, due to working next to a motorway.
Went on one night out near where I worked and there were only small pubs in the area. There was not a buzzing atmosphere to say the least.
The company laid on a staff curry night on site, with inflatable fair ground games, which was a good laugh and meant I could mingle with a lot of staff on the project. Other than that, there were no activities outside of work.
