The Role
I loved my time at Golfbreaks.com. I made friends for life, gained some valuable skills and learnt a lot about myself.
My department ran an incentive whilst our manager was on annual leave. Everyone in my department and all senior management had to vote for 'The most Valuable Team Member' where I won first place and was given the prize of a break to a 5* resorts in Portugal. Not only this but my manager always made me feel valued by giving me extra responsibilities.
I was given a great deal of support and was made to feel like my work was appreciated. With regular one-to-ones, any concerns I had were voiced and dealt with straight away and I always felt comfortable asking for advice or support if I needed it. The managers and directors are all very approachable.
This placement year in particular was very busy due to changes to the opening hours and shift patterns meaning that the work lode shifted. The work load is usually seasonal, but the whole year was busy in my department.
I was given extra responsibilities during my placement which included distributing work to my fellow placement students, being able to carry out interviews for the next year of students and taking part heavily in the training of new students. I was given this responsibility because I worked hard and made sure that it was noticed by the right people including the managers and directors. I was asked to look after sensitive clients and the bookings of one of our directors which showed that I could be trusted as was regarded as a reliable member of staff.
The training was both useful and consistant. It was practical and applied to real life situations as opposed to text book examples. As I started my placement a couple of months after the rest of my year of students, I was 'thrown in the deep end', although I picked things up quickly and soon became confident in my role, helping those who had been there longer than me.
The Company
The majority of Golfbreaks.com staff are placement students or ex-placeent students that have returned upon graduating. Therefore there is a very young vibe around the office. The placement students and full-timers all live together, go out together and generally have a laugh. The company trips are always enjoyed by everyone and there is a great environment in the office.
Golfbreaks.com have always employed placement students - My manager started as a placement student. They know how to make sure each student gets the most out of their placement and know exactly what they are doing in terms of paperwork and keeping record of valuable things for you to take back to university with you.
The company trained me very well and as I previously mentioned, I was given extra responsibilities to reflect this. I was offered a job upon graduating which I was very happy with. Golfbreaks train each person according to their individual learning methods.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
As mentioned, I was offered a job upon graduating and I plan on keeping in touch with them throughout my final year at university to take them up on this offer.
The Culture
The students and full timers all get together regularly and socialise every week outside work.
As a tourist town, Windsor is not the cheapest place to live/socialise, but only as much as anywhere else around London. Windsor is a lovely place and has a lot to offer!
There are lots of different palces to go out in and around Windsor and London is not far away.
Golfbreaks have regular Fam trips to their venues around the UK which often involced and overnight stay and dinner with golf/use of the spa. There were also occasional after work drinks with visitors from the venues.
