The Role
I really enjoyed my placement. The people were really friendly, the building was stunning and the work I was given was interesting and dynamic.
I felt valued by my colleagues because they were proactive in giving me work to do, asked my opinion, and included me in meetings and discusssions.
My manager and my buddy were great, we had weekly 1-2-1s with each other to discuss my progress and they always checked to see how I was, how I was finding the internship and what I would like to do.
For the first 7 weeks of my 10 week internship I was very busy, near the end, however, the work slowed down, but mainly because the projects I was working on slowed down. Nevertheless I always had something to do and could keep proactive by asking for work from my team.
I was given quite a bit repsonsibility. I had to ask for updates from very senior people, take minutes regularly that would be seen by a variety of people and represent Nomura on varius occasions. All these things helped me feel like I was making a contribution at work.
As I worked in change managment, I learnt a lot about how to organise projects, people, and costs. I also learnt a lot about jusggling different types of work, and being able to work in detail on something that I may not have indepth knowledge about. Training on how an investmenet bank works, project management, and finance will also help me in my degree and hopefully future jobs.
The Company
Even though the office was very busy the general atmosphere was often fun and joky. It was easy to talk to people, even senior management, and the atmosphere was never stifling or boring.
The recruitment was extremely fast, after each interview I heard the result in the next 2 days. Also the interviews were organised with personable contacts which made me feel much less stressed. The onboarding after the job offer was excellent with continued contact from Nomura. Also the welcome drinks before the internship helped me meet interns and make early friends.
We had quite a few sessions on investment banking, networking and many more. We were also trained intensively at the beginning so everyone felt like they were on the same playing field, whatever the academic background. Personal development was also promoted with regular reviews.

I have not yet finished my internship but am confident that I did my best and that if I do get an offer I will be very happy here.
The Culture
The social scene between the interns and the colleagues was great. We often went out which helped create a bond between the people I worked with.
I commuted from home but I often went out in London. Of course it's more expensive than, say, uni but it wasn't ridiculous. You pay for the atmosphere and the scene.
There were lots of places to go out in, Abacus was the weekly jaunt that we seemed to find ourselves in but there are plenty of bars, clubs, and restaurants in the City which is great.
There weren't loads, there was a football club but that's not really my thing, but I joined the work choir which was great fun. There were also various challenges throughout my time here such as quizes and charity events.
