The Role
Overall I really enjoyed my placement here. I was able to interact with a variety of people in my department as well as others, take part in a variety of internship events, and appreciated getting to know my colleagues and other interns. I felt like KPMG really valued its staff and I hope to return.
The Big 4 are well known for investing a lot in their staff and KPMG was no exception. I had the opportunity to learn a lot from my colleagues, shadow some senior employees, and benefitted from a mentor as well.
Everyone was extremely supportive in my work and I enjoyed getting to know my team. My manager gave my useful projects to work on and I felt like I was making a difference.
This was my main critique - at times I was overloaded with work but others I didn't have very much to work on. However, if I asked for work I would get something to do.
I feel like the work I did will make a difference to my clients and whilst I was doing work that may not be the most illuminating, I feel like I still gained a lot from the experience.
Not really relevant to my degree nor to what I study but I still enjoyed learning and will be able to hopefully apply these skills in my future career.
The Company
Big 4 invest a lot in their people and I really enjoyed being able to spend time with my team. The other interns and grads were very friendly and tried to make you feel welcome.
A few things could be done better (didn't always have enough work or sometimes too much) but overall I enjoyed the program and would recommend it to others.
If I continue on the grad scheme I will have the opportunity to complete the ACA. I also participated in the Tax University and got an idea of what the different divisions do within KPMG.
Company Parties/Events
KPMG clearly invests a lot in its people and this is definitely a company I'd like to work for in the future. I get to get an ACA qualification and the environment and culture here is very inclusive and friendly.
The Culture
Everyone was hard working but still wanted to get to know you and were friendly. I appreciated getting to know the other interns and my team.
Unfortunately London is extremely expensive!!
Didn't go out much after work in the area I worked - if we went out for drinks it'd be in a more affordable place (i.e. university bar)
You sometimes had to ask to be involved but there was always somethign to do.
