The Role
It was a really enjoyable scheme, especially the trip to the Paris office. The social activities were well organised and varied, they also provided a perfect opportunity to get to know the other people on the scheme better.
Everyone that I have met at the firm has been so accomodating, that it has really made it a worth-while experience.
The whole team was really supportive and had a lot of time to explain things. The philosophy is definitely that no question is a stupid one. Very much an open door policy.
Work varied in the departments, but people went out of their way to provide good, challenging work. Also, unlike at other firms they tried to give me interesting work that would help me to understand the department.
In my first week I was asked to participate in a presentation to the department. There is a lot of responsibility available, especially if you put yourself out there.
The work, the advice and the seminars that I attended have cemented my future career ambitions. In addition to this, the skills I have learnt from having to work independently and having to do lots of research will be extremely helpful for my dissertation.
The Company
It depends on the department, in one there were weekly and monthly meetings where everyone gets together for a chat and in another their approach was to have Friday night drinks. During my placement everyone was really keen to get to know me and find out more about my interests.
The internship strikes the right balance between work and social activities, it is also well organised and there were no problems or hitches. I was particuarly impressed with the trip to Paris, it was great fun and the office over there is really cool.
Supervisors are brillliant, but one thing I enjoyed was that partners and other associates take a keen interest in helping you to learn. Everyone popped in to say hi in the morning, and provided feedback on the work I had completed for them.

The Culture
All the other students were really nice and interesting, we went for drinks and food when we didn't have work and always had lunch together.
Quite an expensive area, we ended up eating in the staff restaurant a lot because it's so heavily subsidised. A good meal costs about £3.50.

I went to a Mayer Brown french class.
