The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed my time at Detica. Worked on interesting software projects and liked the atmosphere.
Everything I said was taken on board and I felt as if I had a real input in the projects that I was working on.
My manager was incredibly good at providing support and guidance when I needed it. There could have perhaps been more support from Detica as a whole regarding some of their procedures but I never really struggled as people were always happy to help.
There were a couple of empty hours during my placement but not really many at all. I never felt pressured into working late and the work I did have, while not easy, was of the right level of difficulty for a placement.
I submitted code to a live website and contributed heavily to the development of an internal tool.
The software techniques I picked up whilst I was there will really help me through my degree. The business experience and training courses I attended on presenting and writing will be skills that will be incredibly useful in years to come.
The Company
The right atmosphere for me basically. Quite relaxed and quiet but people are always happy to talk and help.
Everything ran smoothly however I do feel as though some things (like receiving laptops and reviewing performance) were hastily organised as they didn't run quite as well. Every other intern I spoke to always had work to do and were active on real live projects which doesn't seem to happen at every company.
They set up training courses to develop our business skills. Also, Detica runs a series of internal courses to develop skills like presenting and persuasive writing that are really useful.

I'd be really happy going back and they do offer a lot of interns jobs or further placements.
The Culture
As an intern group we got on really well. Detica helped by funding social events like cinema trips and comedy nights.
It's London ...
Again it's London so completely depends where you are. You can find anything you want but its never that cheap.
There are a lot of clubs and societies in the company. I tagged along on the Cinema Club night which was good fun.
