The Role
I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the work environment at M&G, however some days were a little slow and I would have liked a little more to do.
The people really were the best part of my internship. During the 8 weeks, every single person was friendly and made me feel part of the team.
My manager was great; really enthusiastic and encouraging; he wanted me to enjoy my placement and learn as much as I could. We had regular meetings to discuss my progress and how I was getting on. The only downside was that I didn't have knowledge of my next task until I finished the one in hand, which meant there was often a delay between the two where I had little to do,
Most days I had a specific task to complete/work on. However, some of the tasks were research-based, where I would have preferred something more hands-on. I found myself at a loose end several times. However, after speaking with my manager about this he endeavoured to keep me busy with new tasks as much as possible.
The nature of my internship was such that I could not be entrusted with responsibilities until I had knowledge of the business and my department. Therefore I spent the first few weeks doing tasks which helped me gain this knowledge. In the last couple of weeks, I was given tasks which contained greater responsibility.
The skills I learnt concerning the business environment are most valuable to me, I think. Plus, the technical skills I gained in particular areas will help me continue my degree to a higher standard.
The Company
Everyone in the office was so friendly and incredibly welcoming to all new starters. There was a general sense of remaining focused on the task and being efficient, whilst working well with each other forming good working relationships.
The administration side of things was handles incredibly well by all parties involved. Only the content of my internship (i.e. what I would be doing) was left unannounced to me until my first day, but it was soon explained.
Despite being involved in I.T, I was sent on a one day course about Fund Management, which highlighted the businesses' key activities and gave a general overview into Investment Management. I found this very helpful in applying it to my department's involvement with the business as a complete unit.

Company Parties/Events
Working from home
I have to complete a year placement as part of my degree, so I will be re-applying to M&G for that.
The Culture
The other interns/placement students were really friendly and supportive.
London. The City. It wasn't cheap.
Mostly pubs and bars; although I didn't go to many. Too expensive and far from where I lived.
The office ran a softball event every week/the graduate students and other interns played football together.
