    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall I have highly enjoyed my year at WBI, however I think this is mainly down to the social side of the placement and many of the employees here.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very - you are doing a real job and your work essential to the success of the company so interns are treated the same as full timers and our work is appreciated.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • For the majority of my placement I was paired with a manager that I felt gave little support and understanding and was often the one asking me for help, so I didn't feel like I could go to them when I needed guidance. Although a pain, it was not a massive problem as there are always other bdms, the sales manager, operations manager and MD around to help, who are all very approachable.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Given the nature of the industry there is always a variation in the work load. As I was placed with one of the more demanding BDMs I found myself to be very busy the majority of the time, however I know this is not the case with all interns.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • You are given a lot of responsibility right from the outset, At the beginning I was just responsible for managing my bdms orders, however over time you will build up your own clients and sales. I have had the opportunity to look after large clients and produce bespoke items from start to finish with little assistance from management.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although not necessarily a marketing role, this has definitely aided my degree and given me a broad understanding of the industry. I have gained a lot of experience in communications, teamwork, CRM and liasing with suppliers.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is fairly young with the majority of staff under 30 and has a very relaxed atmosphere, everyone is very friendly and interns are treated no different. Plenty of office banter! Morale is great when the company is hitting target however on slow days this can be low.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Considering the amount of interns they take on and the busy changeover period, I think it is very well organized from moving into the houses, the training period, through to the very end.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • You have an intense 2 weeks training away from the main office with all the new interns and visits to exhibitions and suppliers to get an understanding of the industry.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If I was looking for a sales role I could come back as a Business Development Manager, but from there, there is not much room to progress.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As half the company is made up of interns there is a great social life, especially living and working together you get to know everyone well. We all go out at weekends and sometimes some of the managers too, the MD has been known to make an occasional appearance on nights out. Just like uni but working 9-5.30!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Having got used to cheap northern prices at uni, it is more expensive, however being from down south anyway it's not a problem. Yes it is nearly London prices as its a commuter town, but houses and bills are paid more so the wage is enough for weekend activities/sesh.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Maidenhead is pants. But Windsor and Reading are a good time and only 10-20 mins away.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The lads play football.

    3/5
