The Role
I had an amazing time on this placement. The work was very varied, challenging and interesting. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a career in professional services and in particular Deloitte
Everyone was extremely welcoming. It was so easy to fit into the team.
The support and mentoring offered by Deloitte is amazing. So many people are happy to talk through what they do and give advice. Questions are encouraged. Managers were happy to take the time to explain the tasks they had given to do in detail.
I always had work to do and it was a great balance between not being bored but also not being so busy that I felt I couldn't cope.
I was given a lot of responsibility from day 1. I was set tasks to do independently and it was a steep learning curve. However, my colleagues and managers were always on hand to offer support and guidance.
I developed a number of skills that I know will help me when I continue my studies next year, particularly how to prioritise work and how to adapt to different situations.
The Company
There was a great atmosphere in the office. The team was smaller compared to other offices so people know each other really well. The atmosphere was far from dull.
The internship was very well organised. It was a rotation scheme and from the very first day I knew what department I would be in each week and the work I would be doing.
Deloitte invested a lot of time in all the interns on the scheme. A week of training and inductions was given at the beginning of the scheme and throughout the rest of it I was constantly supported and mentored to ensure everything was going well and if I had any problems.
Company Parties/Events
I have been offered a partner interview at the end of the scheme. I definitely want to work with Deloitte and I hope the interview will be a success.
The Culture
Deloitte organises a number of social events throughout the year and the interns in my office were given the opportunity to organise a social of our own. The office is quite small so everyone gets to know each other well.
I found that the cost of socialising was quite reasonable given its proximity to London.
The nightlife is very good, there is always somewhere to go at the weekend but only if you favour socialising in pubs as opposed to nightclubs
I didn't have the opportunity to get involved in activities outside work during the scheme, however I heard about them. Deloitte run a football tournament in Prague every year for their offices around the world which is well received and they also hold community investment days.
