The Role
I got to do things that felt useful and feel like my contribution was valued but had people to help me when I needed it
They asked how my weekend was, what I was going to be up to, what I'm thinking of doing with my life and generally seemed really nice.
I had a personal mentor and a manager who made sure I knew what I was doing and other people would step in when they weren't around
I had the right amount of stuff to do, and was encouraged to predict how long tasks would take so I pretty much set it myself.
I had most of the responsibility for the tool I was building, with my manager helping.
I now know a new programming language and I'm much more knowledgeable about how to build complex OOP systems
The Company
We weren't bouncing off the walls but we'd stop to chat about interesting stuff and there were plenty of jokes. Lots of other interns too which is good.
They sorted everything out well in advance and there were helpful people to ask if I had any questions.
I spent a week or so where my only task was to learn a new programming language.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
I'd like to try some other things but this is definitely a good place.
The Culture
There's a vibrant intern mailing list and parties, pub trips, films and sport with other interns
Subsidised company housing and mainly parks, which don't cost much.
Not very good, unless you go into London
I played for the frisbee team and went to Laser quest in my 8 weeks
