The Role
Interesting and challenging work in a very friendly environment.
The project I was given to work on was of genuine interest to the company.
My manager provided excellent support, though he was often busy working in other areas. There were always plenty of specialists in different areas around to ask for advice.
I was given a project to work on very autonomously, so whilst I always had plenty to do it was up to me to manage my workload.
The approach to take in my project was very much down to me.
The work I was doing was very relevant to my maths degree; as well as providing excellent experience of applying pure mathematics in software engineering, it also allowed me to pick up the theoretical underpinnings of several of my courses for next year.
The Company
Very relaxed and friendly.
Everything ran very smoothly.
I was given a lot of time as part of my project to read up on theory and experiment with various pieces of software.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
It would be very tempting to come back and work there after leaving university.
The Culture
All of the interns were very friendly and we got on well together.
Reasonable.
You have to go to Southampton for nightlife; nothing much happens in the towns very close by.
There were plenty of social, sporting and charitable events. In particular there were company sports activities happening pretty much every day after work.
