The Role
It was a really enjoable experience and I am very sad to leave. Everyone was friendly and welcoming right from start to finish.
I felt very valued. Colleagues appreciated you giving up your time to work there and made sure you were able to get the most out of the internship
Throughout the internship our managers reviewed our progress and we could feedback on what we would like to do more/less of to get the most out of our internship. There was also an organiser who we could approach with any problems or questions at any time.
There were some days when I was really busy and others when I had less to do but no one will know that you need more work unless you say so. Whenever I asked for more work everyone was very happy to give me more work to do which was great!
I was given quite a bit of responsibility. I was in charge of finding event venues, helping with important Charity of the Year applications and many other important jobs.
The skills I learned were definitely useful for the future! At Cancer Research UK you won't find yourself photocopying all the time. The skills you learn are transferable skills and will always be useful. The CV and Interview skills workshop was also really useful in developing skills to help you be more successful in job appliaction in the future.
The Company
The internship was really fun as well as a great learning experience. Having other interns around was nice and it was a good support network. The office environment was light hearted yet always professional.
The internship was incredibly well organised. The preparation beforehand was so helpful and made the first day in the office less daunting. The induction days were are great introduction and also the perfect opportunity to meet the other interns.
Throughout the internship our managers reviewed our progress and we had the opportunity to discuss what we would like to do more/less of. We also had a CV writing and interview skills workshop which helped our development in terms of being more successful in furture job applications.
Healthcare/Dental
The are lots of people at the charity who were interns and now work there full time. There are definitely opportunities to work with the charity after but this usually happens through applications to internal jobs. Whilst working at the charity you have access to internal job advertisements and i know many interns who applied during the internship. As I am going back to Uni to finish my degree I did not apply for any vacancies as these start almost immediately, but the opportunities are there.
The Culture
There was something happening every week with the other interns. In the first few weeks and the last week socials were organised for us but in between we organised our own drinks after work or intern lunches which was really nice.
Some places in the area were pricey but there were also plenty of places that were reasonably prices. There is lots of choice of places to go in the area.
I didn't experience any nightlife in the area but there are lots of bars that stay open until late. As the internship is in London there are plenty of places to go just a short tube journey away!
There were many photoshoots and fundrasing events that we were given thr opportunity to take part in. We also organised our own intern fundraising events which were a great success!
