The Role
I have had a fantastic time on the L'Oreal internship. On a professional level I have enjoyed the reward that has come from achieving the goals that I have been set. On a personal level I have met a group of people that I have socialised both inside and outside of work with.
The L'Oreal summer internship is a 11 week programme. The length of the internship ensures that you are a valued member of the team playing a crucial role in the development of the brand that you are working on.
I think the internship provided me with the right balance between independence and support. I always felt that I could ask for help if I required it but I also felt that I was doing my own job and making my own decisions. I had a extremely strong relationship with my manager and my manager often gave me extra guidance helping me to make the most of the internship.
Throughout my internship I was always busy, I was often juggling several different projects and ensuring that I was doing everything that was required of me.
I enjoyed the responsibility that came from running my own projects and enjoyed being placed in pressurised situations where I had to deliver results. I believe the amount of responsibility interns are given at L'Oreal really sets it apart from other FMCG companies.
I believe the skills I have developed over the last 11 weeks will help me immeasurably in my final year of university study at Nottingham. I now believe that I have a wide skills base having developed my creative, negotiation and presentation skills during my placement.
The Company
Working in the marketing department I was in an animated team full of creative and outgoing people.
At the start I was set a number of different projects that were both measurable and goal orientated. My progress was then reviewed after 6 and 10 weeks. Overall the programme was extremely well organised.
I felt the training that I was given was personally geared towards me and therefore it was training that I valued.

On my last day I was very happy to be informed that I would be offered a place on L'Oreal's graduate management trainee programme. I will be returning to the company at the end of my university degree.
The Culture
The company organised social events throughout the placement for all of the interns. I also participated in numerous social events that were held by the team that I was working in.
Living in London is never going to be cheap. I tried to find the right balance in terms of financing my social life and having a good time.
Hammersmith is not notoriously known for its 'going out' scene but being situated on the Picadilly line it is only a short tube journey away from many of London's biggest nightclubs and bars.
Throughout my placement I played in the L'Oreal 5 a-side football team. I also participated in Citizens Day (a L'Oreal run charity initiative).
